Last year, billionaire Steve Wynn began posting to his Instagram account after a five-year hiatus. The Las Vegas visionary has since frequently shared, recounting memorable stories from his illustrious career and shedding insight into his retirement life.
On Saturday, Wynn posted an update on his life at the age of 83. He claims his friends continue to nudge him for a casino “encore,” building one last resort.
People get on me. They say, ‘Steve, why don’t you build another hotel and do something?’ I say, ‘Well, cut me some slack. I’m 83. I ride my bike 20 miles a day, go to the gym trying to stay in shape. You got to remember, you got to outrun your enemies,’” Wynn says in the video message.
Wynn goes on to say that his friends have asked him what his “real achievement” in retirement has been so far.
Well, in terms of goals of a lifetime, I’m this close to being able to work the iPhone 12. My best achievement in my senior years is that my Levi’s are a 29-inch waist,” Wynn joked with a chuckle.

Wynn Barred From Nevada
Even if Steve Wynn wanted to build another casino resort, he wouldn’t be able to do so in Las Vegas.
In July 2023, Wynn agreed to a settlement with the Nevada Gaming Commission to resolve the yearslong legal saga stemming from sexual misconduct allegations raised against him more than five years earlier. Wynn agreed to pay a $10 million fine to the state gaming commission and refrain from having any business dealings moving forward in Nevada’s gaming industry.
“Respondent agrees and stipulates that he is, and shall remain, entirely removed from any direct or indirect involvement, affiliation, financing, consultation, promotional advertising in any form or media, or licensing agreement in the Nevada gaming industry,” the settlement terms mandate.
However, Wynn is allowed to possess up to 5% ownership in a publicly traded corporation that’s licensed in Nevada to conduct gaming operations.
Boston Casino Was Wynn’s Encore
Steve Wynn’s abrupt exit from the gaming industry ended with the building of Encore Boston Harbor. The integrated resort casino, which is in Everett across the Mystic River from the Massachusetts capital city, opened in June 2019.
Encore Boston Harbor was originally to be named Wynn Boston. State officials in Massachusetts required Wynn Resorts to remove the Wynn name from the property after its founder and longtime chairman, president, and CEO resigned in January 2018 amid the allegations.
Wynn has maintained his innocence, claiming he never acted inappropriately with female subordinates. Wynn asserts that the sexual misconduct scandal was the work of his ex-wife, Elaine Wynn, who died last year at the age of 82.
Las Vegas casinos built by Wynn, along with Wynn and Encore, include The Mirage, Treasure Island, and Bellagio. Wynn was also responsible for building the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City and the Beau Rivage in Mississippi.
In China, Wynn envisioned and opened Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace on the Cotai Strip.
