NoMad shooting leaves man hurt as police search for suspect – NBC New York

A man was shot multiple times in the chest in a midday shooting in Manhattan, according to police, and the search for the suspect is ongoing.

Bullets started to fly around 12:30 p.m. Monday near the corner of East 28th Street and Madison Avenue in NoMad, police said. While it wasn’t totally clear what led up to the shooting, the gunman and the victim were seen talking to one another before shots were fired, according to a law enforcement source, who noted the shots did not appear to be random.

The 49-year-old victim was struck twice in the chest by bullets, police said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was said to be recovering.

Bullet casings were found at the scene as well as a block away, but no weapon was recovered, according to police.

The victim is a security guard at a homeless shelter, but was off-duty at the time of the shooting, a law enforcement source told NBC New York.

The suspect was last seen wearing a red sweater with blue stripes.
