The Crazy Original Plan for THUNDERBOLTS* Had the Entire Team Dying — GeekTyrant

Marvel almost took Thunderbolts* in a seriously shocking direction, and it would’ve completely changed how fans walked out of that movie.

The film already puts its team through the wringer, especially when The Void traps people in those disturbing “shame rooms” that force them to relive their worst experiences. It’s heavy stuff, particularly for characters like Yelena Belova, whose past in the Red Room comes crashing back in a brutal way.

But according to U.S. Agent actor Wyatt Russell, there was an even darker version of the story on the table at one point.

Speaking at MEGACON Orlando, Russell revealed that there was a plan where none of the team made it out alive.

That’s a pretty insane idea when you think about it. A Marvel movie where the entire team gets wiped out isn’t something the studio usually leans into, especially with characters that have potential for future stories.

Instead, the version we got keeps the focus on survival, redemption, and the shared trauma that bonds these characters together.

Still, it’s wild to imagine an ending where every member of the Thunderbolts falls. It would’ve been a bleak, gutsy move, and definitely one that fans would still be talking about.

As it stands, Thunderbolts* gives us a story about damaged people finding purpose, and some kind of connection in the middle of chaos, which feels like a better fit for where the MCU is heading.

It’s probably for the best that they didn’t pull the trigger on wiping them all out.
