James Marsden Shares What It Meant to See Cyclops Unleashed in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Teaser — GeekTyrant

Marvel fans got a little jolt of excitement from the teaser footage for Avengers: Doomsday, and seeing Cyclops stepping back into the spotlight was pretty damn cool.
Now, James Marsden is opening up about what it felt like to see that moment for himself, and his reaction is exactly what you’d hope from someone returning to such an iconic role. This time suiting up in comic-accurate costume and stepping into a much bigger MCU conflict involving Doctor Doom.
The teaser itself gave fans plenty to chew on. A powerful exchange between Professor X and Magneto set the tone, but it was Cyclops who stole the show in the final moments.
Surrounded by chaos, facing down a towering Sentinel, Scott Summers unleashes a massive optic blast that instantly became one of the most talked-about shots.
Speaking to ScreenRant, Marsden shared just how much that moment meant to him:
“It felt really good. It was really special. It had been so long. To see how enthusiastic and how waiting with bated breath everyone is to see this movie, it feels good. To have that epic shot with modern technology and special effects.”
He also reflected on how far things have come since the early days of the X-Men films:
“When I’d do a blast, when we filmed the first movie, I’d have two rolls of film that they painted red [from my eyes]. No, but it felt good. It was a pretty cool thing to see. I watched it over and over and over again.”
And in a relatable twist, his toughest critics might be at home. He added with a laugh.
“My kids don’t care. I’m kidding. I’m kidding. They love what I do. They’re very proud. But they’re like, “Okay, get over yourself.’”
While early reports suggest the X-Men won’t dominate the story in Avengers: Doomsday, their presence is expected to leave a mark, and with Avengers: Secret Wars looming on the horizon, there’s a good chance may not be the last time we see these versions of the characters.
For longtime fans, though, seeing Marsden’s Cyclops finally get a proper, powerful moment like this already feels like a win.
