Bad teams have bad luck, and for the Mets, an injury to Marcus Semien has further added to an avalanche of tough breaks this season.

New York placed the veteran second baseman on the 10-day injured list Thursday due to a left hip flexor strain. In a corresponding move, they recalled Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse.

Semien played the entirety of the second game of Wednesday night’s disastrous doubleheader, accounting for two of the Mets’ six errors.

A lapse in defense renders Semien worthless, as he was brought in for his stellar glove. His bat has struggled to acclimate to life in Queens after he was acquired from the Texas Rangers in the Brandon Nimmo deal. In 80 games, he was batting .214 with a .613 OPS, nine home runs, and 29 RBI.
