This fifth episode of Anna Pigeon quite literally is one of the best episodes of television that I have ever watched. There is not one single bit about this episode that I did not like, it was absolutely incredible and props to every single cast member this episode because they all smashed it.
Having this storyline paired with these characters is amazing. I loved that we started with Anna being in the hole straight away, I was seriously missing a quote at the start of the episode and when it kicked in I was immediately hooked. Even to just have Anna constantly talking as if we are inside her mind and then for us to truly be inside her mind was insane.
I feel like this was the perfect time to have an episode like this in the season too because everything that everyone was saying about Anna and how she was distant and often ran away tracks with what we know about her. As much as she has started to open up to people and let them into her life, she isn’t that far away from being the person that she was at the start of the season.
Jessie be the one to make sure that everyone is going to look for her was faultless. To see him kind of have a bit of insecurity about their relationship when the fire guys were giving him rubbish about having slept with Anna last season but ultimately decide their connection was stronger than that was great. The boys’ fight really showed how deep Jessie’s feelings for Anna are, to be honest this whole episode did. I do like the juxtaposition of Anna being the only thing that is one Jessie’s mind and the only thing on Anna’s mind is Zach.
One of the best things about this episode in my opinion was all of the conversation between Anna and Zach as the figment of her imagination, then her subsequent breakdown due to her guilt about his death. It was so wonderful to essentially watch what her relationship with Zach was like and you could tell that they loved each other so much. I genuinely can’t believe that Anna walked past Zach when he was dead and didn’t realise because of how drunk she was. It added so much to the layer of grief that she has been dealing with since the start of the show.
Having the present, past and imaginary all be paired next to each other for most of this episode was so mesmerizing. It helped us to learn so much about Anna and her past with just a few scenes, and why her relationships with everyone she encounters are so fraught.
Honestly when Anna drank from the flask I really wanted to scream at my television because it was so obviously drugged and normally she is very cautious of things like that. However I am so glad that it happened because it showed just how vulnerable she can get when everything comfortable for her is stripped away and considering she is almost always out of her comfort zone it was so obvious how much this time was affecting her.
The line “come and get me” truly made me so happy for Anna, I knew from that moment on that she was going to be fine. She had complete control of that situation or at least in that moment she did.
I could not be more happy that this episode is directly leading into the next episode, especially since we are bringing Jeremiah back. The preview for the next episode had me wishing I could watch the next episode straight away!
