December kicks off with a wintry bang on Tuesday when a new storm drops one of the first major snowfalls of the season.
New York is looking at the potential of half a foot of snow this week — that is if you live north of the city. The latest forecast calls for anywhere from five to eight inches of snow in the mid-Hudson Valley and northwest New Jersey.
Conditions don’t look as frosty in the Big Apple. As the storm strikes early Tuesday, rain will be the more likely weather event for New York City and communities to the south and east. A few flakes are still possible.
So when should the lucky snow lovers expect a healthy blanketing? The snow should be moving in during the Tuesday morning commute.
Everything should dry out by Wednesday, in time for the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Temperatures won’t warm up however.
Around the time of the lighting, temperatures will likely be in the mid 30s.
