A massive police investigation is underway in Queens after a gunman allegedly shot his family, then set their home on fire — leading to an explosion that left more than a dozen people injured.
Two of the shooting victims were reported to have died of their injuries.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, police from the 101st Precinct were called to 2533 Oceancrest Blvd. in Far Rockaway after reports that a 33-year-old man had opened fire in his home, critically wounding people.
When cops arrived, sources said, the officers learned that the suspect was armed with a shotgun — leading police to radio for backup from the Emergency Service Unit.
During the standoff, sources say the gunman set the building ablaze, causing an explosion that rapidly spread fire throughout the home and nearby buildings.
The armed suspect then attempted to leave the residence, sources said, when he was shot by police. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
Meanwhile, at least one dozen people were injured in the fire and two are dead from gunshot wounds. These victims are believed to be members of the gunman’s own family.
Police and FDNY officials are on the scene investigating and are asking the public to stay clear of the area.
