Temps stay dangerous in NYC, worsened by Sunday wind gusts – NBC New York

The bitter cold continues.

There’s simply no silver lining our weather situation. And worse, Sunday’s conditions are intensified by strong winds. Gusts will be between 30 and 40 miles per hour as a storm passes offshore. It’s an extra sting to an already dangerous cold.

In New York City on Saturday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed a 14th death linked to frigid weather conditions. There have also been deaths reported in New Jersey and on Long Island.

For Sunday, wind chills remain in the single digits most of the day.

The worst of the cold air will be over by Monday, when temperatures moderate…somewhat. We’ll still be cold for this time of year, but temperatures next week will run nearly 10 degrees warmer than this weekend.

If temperatures don’t reach freezing on Monday, there will be more chances Tuesday and Wednesday before it gets colder again.

Storm Team 4 is also monitoring two more snow chances later this week, but neither look to be significant snowfalls. There’s a chance for some snow shower Wednesday and a second opportunity Friday night into Saturday.

The first two months of meteorological winter are now behind us, and the December-January combo is the coldest we have seen in 15 years.
