Remember, Remember! V FOR VENDETTA Returns to Theaters for Its 20th Anniversary and There’s a New Trailer — GeekTyrant

Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Twenty years later, V for Vendetta is heading back to theaters, and a new trailer has arrived to remind us just how damn good this movie is.

Fathom Entertainment is bringing V for Vendetta back to the big screen for its 20th anniversary, with special screenings scheduled for November 1 and November 5, 2026.

The film remains one of the most memorable dystopian thrillers of the era. It’s stylish, intense, politically charged, and packed with ideas about authoritarianism, fear, freedom, propaganda, and what happens when people finally decide they’ve had enough.

The story takes place in a near-future Britain controlled by the fascist Norsefire Party. Natalie Portman stars as Evey Hammond, an ordinary woman whose life changes when she crosses paths with the mysterious masked revolutionary V, played by Hugo Weaving.

V is plotting to bring down the oppressive government, and Evey soon finds herself pulled into his dangerous campaign. As their relationship develops, police inspector Eric Finch begins investigating V and uncovering information that forces him to question the government he serves.

Weaving spends the entire film hidden beneath the iconic Guy Fawkes mask and still delivers one of the coolest performances of his career. Portman gives Evey a strong emotional arc as she goes from frightened citizen to someone forced to confront what freedom actually costs.

The supporting cast includes Stephen Rea, Stephen Fry, John Hurt, Tim Pigott-Smith, Rupert Graves, and Roger Allam.

V for Vendetta marked the feature directorial debut of James McTeigue, who later went on to direct Ninja Assassin, The Raven, and Survivor. The screenplay was written by Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski, who also produced the film alongside Joel Silver and Grant Hill.

The movie was adapted from the influential graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, which was first published in 1982. Moore famously removed his name from the film’s credits.

Warner Bros. originally released V for Vendetta in theaters on March 17, 2006, and it went on to earn roughly $70 million at the U.S. box office.

Two decades later, its story about a government using fear and control to maintain power still packs a serious punch. Whatever your politics, the movie remains a gripping piece of dystopian filmmaking, and its imagery, performances, action, and ideas have helped it stick around long after its original theatrical run.

For longtime fans, the anniversary screenings offer a chance to experience those huge moments in a theater again. For anyone who has somehow never seen V for Vendetta on the big screen, November is a pretty great opportunity to fix that.

Fathom Entertainment’s 20th anniversary screenings of V for Vendetta will take place November 1 and November 5, 2026.

Check out the new trailer and tell us if you’ll be heading back to the theater to watch V blow things up all over again.
